Snowy Owls!

Snowy Owls are coming! Actually, they’re already here for some lucky Wisconsinites as sightings are reported to the Wisconsin Birding Network. So far the beautiful owls have been spotted in Ashland, Oconto and LaCrosse:

I was very fortunate finding a Snowy Owl earlier this year on my way home from work. Taking the scenic tour home via Pheasant Branch Road, I was verifying a tip I had given a customer for Snow Buntings when I found this Snowy Owl perched atop a utility pole:

Lucky you! I looked for the LaCrosse Snowy today, without any luck. But we're heading up north tomorrow to visit my husband's family. Maybe somewhere between Ashland and Hurley, I'll be lucky!

If you saw the above group Snowy shot in the Wisconsin State Journal, it was their mistake. They were supposed to use the bottom photo!

We're about 30 miles south of La Crosse. The kids and I saw a snowy owl in a field after a late snow this February. I've been doing searches on them now and found your blog.

I meant to say light snow, not late snow.

Can you tell me the best way to try to see a snowy owl as close to Madison as possible?

There was a Snowy Owl present downtown Madison, perching atop the construction cranes for the past two weeks. It hasn't been seen in the past few days, so perhaps it has moved on. If it's spotted again, I'll post something about it on my blog.

It's 2:00pm 1/3/07 and a Snowy Owl is being seen downtown Madison this afternoon. Email me if you require detailed information, or check the Wisconsin Birding Network.
