Field Trip this Weekend!

If you’re in the Madison area this Saturday (June 17th), I’ll be leading a field trip for the Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy at 7:30am. Meet at the Dane County Conservancy parking lot on Pheasant Branch Road, 1.2 miles from Century Avenue (Middleton).

A few days ago I pre-scouted the grasslands and savannah and found 33 bird species including half a dozen Dickcissels. There were also Brown Thrashers, Common Yellowthroats, Sedge Wrens, Eastern Kingbirds, Indigo Buntings and more. The weather forecast looks great for the weekend, but perhaps a little warm so make sure to bring water and good hiking shoes.
See you there!

Hey Mike,
Thanks for the info about the field trip this weekend. Can you give us any more details? Will this be geared toward photographers at all? Any idea how long it will last?
Thanks,
Mike
This field trip will run for about 2 hours or so. The primary focus will cater to novice or beginning bird watchers, though anybody is welcome to attend. The emphasis will be identification of late spring/early summer resident birds of grasslands and savannah habitat of Pheasant Branch Conservancy. I will not be taking pictures of birds during this field trip, nor will I be assisting or instructing in that capacity. This shouldn’t be though of as a field trip for nature photographers, though they are welcome to attend. As such, I like to make two requests for photographers attending my non-photography field trips: A) Do not play tapes of bird songs. B) Do not walk ahead of me just to get a picture of a bird.
