Mike, Now that you've led me to my first short eared owl, I'm ready to add a long eared to my list! This poem...reminds me of one my dad used to read to me when I was little. These are wonderful, sweet pictures. Thanks for warming up my evening.
These particular Long-eared Owls (six birds) are on private property and were shared just this one time. As much as I would like others to have the opportunity to see them, it’s probably best for the owls and the land owner’s wishes must also be respected.
One cool inspiration I had from these shots, Mike, is that I did some research to learn the difference between great horned owls and long eared owls - and I learned a number of things that will make me more prepared to id them correctly if I ever have the chance to see these "pair of eyes." I appreciate, too, your sense of privacy and protection for these beautiful owls. Thank you for sharing these shots!
Mike, You must be a wonderful husband, since your photos and commentary are always so sensitive. This one was almost poetic-- in the Carl Sandburg sense.
