The new Nikon Coolpix P5000

Clay Taylor of Swarovski briefly evaluated the new 10 megapixel Nikon Coolpix P5000 at PMA. The Nikon UR-E20 accessory adapter brings it to a convenient 28mm thread, so it will connect to Swarovski's DCA and Kowa's DA-1 digital camera adapters. Is this the camera digiscopers have been waiting for? I won't be able to make a firm recommendation until after I've seen some digiscoped results with it or have an opportunity to test it myself. I'll report any updates right here.

Please stop posting about cool toys. I might have to buy them for my husband! Although, I could take several cool pics of my fabric with that baby. :)

Oh, man--how I'd love to try this one out for a spin! Why did it have to come out after I'm no longer employed?

I am completely new to digiscoping and photography but was intrigued by the low price on this Nikon Coopix P5000. Does this camera have additional telephoto lens or can it only be used for digiscoping?

I currently own a P5000 with the WC-E63 wide angle converter lens.
There are the TC-E2 (2x magnification) and TC-E3ED (3x magnification)Lenses available, although NIKON only endorses the TC-E3ED with Extra low Dispersion coatings to control chromatic aberration and the WC-E63 for the P5000. these lenses are well made! Alternatively I use my wide angle lens with a 52mm - 77mm step up adapter for use with 77mm filters to minimize vignetting. you could also use anything larger than 52 and smaller than 77mm, but they will vignett at the same size 52mm as well as touch the lens, so you should use a step up or a spacer, but I suspect the step up is the best option. I still have to zoom in slightly but shooting with filters is key for scenery, especially with a Graduated Neutral Density filter. being able to do all this with a 77mm petal hood at the end of all my filters, on such a small camera is pretty amazing! and the images pretty much speak for themselves.

Fantasea also makes an underwater housing for this gem of a camera with an underwater wideangle lens, which I also currently use!!

this camera can do more than most other Point and shoots with the right accessories. and if you reverse your lenses for macro you can use adapters for just about any lens, which is a HUGE step up for a point and shoot.

now I just need to go Scope shopping!
