Weston Peregrine Found Shot

It's easy to be angered by a story like this and wonder what's wrong with some people? But at the same time I'm heartened by the fact that there are others who will give it everything they’ve got to restore this Peregrine Falcon's health. Non-profits like the Raptor Education Group, Inc. would still be necessary even without morons with guns blasting federally protected birds out of the sky – seems like many birds find trouble one way or another.

"A wounded and weak Peregrine Falcon has been found on the ground at the Weston Power Plant near the cooling tower. It appears the falcon is the father of the nesting family now housed on top of the Weston 3 Power Plant. He was shot in the wing."

I am truly saddened to hear this, but it seems that the falcon is being well cared for. Will he be re-released after rehab? Will his mate have to find another mate for next season? I have been keeping track of our local peregrine falcons here in San Jose, CA and the three eyasses fledged just last week. So the folks of San Jose are still excited about the new fledglings as we are periodically updated about their whereabouts through the message board. I realize that it takes two "parents" to keep up with new fledglings. I can't imagine how the female will alone take care of her "babies" who has lost her mate due to human carelessness or thoughtlessness. Won't she have a tough time keeping up her strength?
