Red-breasted Nuthatch
Nuthatch of Bootstrap Analysis Blog offers easy ways to help birds near you! Also, with all the rain we’ve had in the Midwest over the past few weeks, it’s important to check your bird feeders for moldy birdseed. Clean your feeders, too, and be sure to rake underneath them to remove droppings, old and moldy seed. For many Wisconsin residents (and elsewhere), this may be the least of their worries - five counties have been declared federal disaster areas in the southwest part of our state.

What a cutie! (Much cuter than me!)
One of my very favorite birds. Great photo.
just wanted to leave a note to say I still read your blog every day! I don't know many of the birds you see, but I plant for birds and I am hoping more will come!
Is it time to clean out the tree swallow's box?
Thanks!
Sis
Sis,
I believe you should clean nest boxes after broods have fledged. I'm not an expert on nest boxes, though, so you may want to get another opinion or better information. I've heard that some people still have active next boxes, so you may want to wait another month. Again, check with someone like Laura Erickson for the facts!

great photo!
Starting to see some familiar faves at the feeders now that migration is beginning and all the redwinged blackbirds and grackles are no longer showing up (I think it also helped that I left the feeders empty for about three solid weeks to get rid of those big bullies).
thanks!
