Weekend Birds
Much of southern Wisconsin was pummeled by another winter snowstorm today with accumulations ranging from 8 to 12 inches. Yeah, we beat the seasonal snowfall record sometime last week and now we have a decent shot at 100 inches before April. But yesterday was sunny and tranquil and I was able to get some birding time in at Pheasant Branch:
Cackling Goose
Canada Goose
Mallard
Red-tailed Hawk
Rough-legged Hawk
American Kestrel
Rock Pigeon
Mourning Dove
Great Horned Owl
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
Northern Shrike
Blue Jay
American Crow
Black-capped Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
Red-breasted Nuthatch
White-breasted Nuthatch
Brown Creeper
Eastern Bluebird
European Starling
American Tree Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Northern Cardinal
House Finch

Hi Mike,
Can't believe all the snow you WI folks continue to get....a winter to remember, that's for sure!
Your photo of the Mourning Dove is absolutely stunning - I love it. The icicles hanging down compliment the picture perfectly.... while the subtle colors hint at the sun's illuminating warmth -conveys the peacefulness of the moment.
Good for you to get out there and find the beauty amidst the snowy woods and chilly temps. Thanks for sharing and hang in there....spring is right around the corner!!!
Another breathtaking photo.
